Behavioral Health Works Partners with Home Depot During its Free Monthly Workshop for Kids.
On June 6, BHW was on hand to participate in Home Depot’s monthly workshops for the community’s children, and provide parents information on autism and related disorders.
The mood of this workshop was more akin to a fun and festive fair. This event was filled with family-oriented activities such as building and painting wooden trucks and playing carnival games. All in attendance had the opportunity to unleash their creative abilities with the supplies provided by various hosts and sponsors.
The main host for this workshop was Home Depot. Recognized as one of the world’s largest home improvement retailers, they offer autism benefits to roughly 340,000 employees along with their families. Behavioral Health Works (BHW) was invited to be on hand and serve as an informational resource for the 300 families. In speaking to some of the families in attendance, several parents visited our booth with questions regarding autism. There were parents who had children with an autism diagnosis, but weren’t receiving treatment for their child because of difficulty with the treatment approval process. BHW was able to assist these parents by providing steps they could take to get their child approved for treatment. There were also parents who speculated that their child may have a developmental disorder but did not know where to go to receive an assessment for their child. We were pleased to meet with the children and parents to address their questions and meet a new friend along the way.
